Wonderfully Stitched

Hi everyone!

Are you good at sewing? I am…just ok at it. I can sew enough to hem my pants and I even made a quilt by hand when I was younger, but that’s about the extent of it… until today! Today, I made this card using the new “Stitched W” die set from Spellbinders! This die is one of several alphabet dies that are part of the “Stitched Alphabet” collection. Each letter in the collection is designed especially for stitching with the holes pre-made. There’s even an accompanying stamp set that pairs really nicely with it!

I most often see stitching dies used with paper, but for this card, I decided to use a pretty gray felt for the “W” and a black felt for the shadow. Once I cut out the gray “W”, I adhered it to several layers of heavy cardstock to give it some rigidity when I stitched on it. I stitched a flower pattern using dark purple thread, then used some iridescent gems for the stitched flower centers. Once the stitching was done, I adhered it to the black felt shadow die cut.

Next, I die cut several flowers and used my Copic markers to color them in pretty shades of purple, pink to match the stitching. I also die cut and colored a few leaves for some greenery.

I assembled the “Stitched W” and the flowers and leaves and arranged them on a square that I had die cut with a hemstitched pattern around the edge. I then stamped and adhered the sentiment under the “W” and then added a few of the iridescent gems to the paper flower centers to add continuity between the flowers and the “Stitched W”.

I absolutely love how this card turned out and I hope you like it, too!

Let me know in the comments if you like stitching on cards!

Hope you have a wonderfully creative day!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
