Happy Anniversary

Spellbinders | Garden Shutters Collection

Hi everyone!

Spellbinders just released the new Garden Shutters Collection by Becca Feeken and I have fallen in love with this Primrose Heart Façade die set! I think it’s the simplicity of the blooms that draws me – nothing to ruffly or with too many layers – just simple petals that look a little like tiny hearts in a circle.

For my card today, I decided to play off of those hearts and create an Anniversary card. I went with dark red flowers (another nod to the hearts) but took a bit of artistic license by making the centers white instead of the typical yellow you see with red primrose.

To get the dark red, I cut the primrose dies out of dark red card stock and then added a bit of darker red toward the center with my Copic marker. It is barely noticeable but does give a bit of depth to the flower center. I added a few highlights on the petals with a white gel pen before assembling the flowers.

For the background, I used the Striped Slimline Embossing folder and cut it down so it was just a bit smaller than my A2 card size.

I heat embossed the sentiment in white on Tim Holtz Matte Black Alcohol Ink Cardstock. I love using this card stock for sentiments because it is such a deep, true black. You do have to be careful while heat embossing so as not to melt it since it is actually designed for alcohol ink and is not a true card stock) – but I think it is worth the extra care to get such great results.

I arranged my flowers and sentiment, then finished the card by adding a few pearls for some sparkle.

I just love the rich red blooms on this card!

Hope you have a wonderfully creative day!

I love to make cards and enjoy trying out new techniques and products. My artistic “style” differs almost daily – it just depends on what I’m making, the look I’m going for, who the intended recipient is, and, well, sometimes just the mood I’m in.
