Thinking of You

Hi everyone!

Today’s card makes me think of summer! And, while it may only be on paper (and in my head), it’s just the escape I needed from the cold, windy, and snowy day we are having here in Wisconsin. I love how card-making lets me make my own sunshine!

This card features the new A2 Filigree Marquis die set from @teamspellbinders and is part of the newly released “Classically Becca Collection”. I love the medallion in this set and thought it would make the perfect backdrop for some simple pink, yellow, and orange flowers.

To make this card, I first cut the medallion die and gently ink blended it using Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink. I attached the medallion to the center of a card panel and ink-blended the edges using the same ink.

I die cut the flowers and the leaves out of Susan’s Garden Specialty Cardstock. You could use any cardstock, but I prefer to use Susan’s Garden Specialty Cardstock because I think it responds better to the shaping.

Once my flowers were cut, I used Distress Oxide Inks to blend the colors for the petals and leaves (list of ink colors is included below) and then I shaped the petals of the flowers just a bit to give them some dimension. I used the round ball stylus and gently pinched them with my fingers. Once you do a petal or two, you’ll quickly see how easy it is to shape them the way you like.

I assembled my flowers and arranged them on the medallion, tucking in the leaves here and there where I thought they looked best.

I used gold foil to hot foil a sentiment onto white cardstock and then gently ink-blended the edges a bit with the Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink to tone down the white a bit. I adhered this to my panel with a bit of foam tape.

I finished with a few iridescent pearls and then mounted the panel using foam adhesive onto my card front.

I hope you enjoyed this project and that you have a wonderfully creative day!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
