AECP: Level 2 – With a Twist

05/10/2021

Hi there!

Every now and again I have an idea in my head about a card I want to create and I just have to see it through. This is the current version of that card…and it is my submission for the AECP Level 2 class “With a Twist”.

I really wanted to use the lesson from the class on double shaker windows and I decided that one of my Mega Alphabet dies would make a great window for the shaker. I chose the letter “A” for “Amazing” and kept the colors soft so that the focus would be on the shaker window.
I used a gorgeous, patterned paper as the see-through element and created a few layered roses in light yellows using the Altenew Rose Flurries die set. You can see the fully see-through window and how the beautiful patterned paper in the picture below where the card is open:
Instructions: 1. Die cut the “A” from a 4.25×5.5 inch panel and again from the card front. I used a ruler to measure where I wanted the “A” on the card front and after I had die cut it, I traced the position of it on my panel to ensure that the opening for the letter would line up. 2. Cover the opening in the card front with acetate using strong adhesive. It is important that you do this to the front of the card – not the inside. 3. Cover the opening on the backside of the panel with acetate. 4. Use foam tape on the card front to create a well for the shaker elements – making sure there are no gaps where the shaker elements could fall out. 5. Add your shaker elements into the well and place your panel with the “A” cut out of it on top. You should now have a shaker window that goes all the way through the front of the card. 6. Cut a piece of patterned paper to 4.25×5.5, but trim just a sliver off of the top so that the card will fold flat. Adhere the patterned paper to the inside of the card. 7. Die cut the layers of your roses and your leaves and arrange them on your card front. I like to place everything where I want it, cover it with Press-n-Seal, then glue the back. I can then place the entire arrangement back on my panel where I want it. 8. Heat emboss a sentiment in white on pale green cardstock, trim, and adhere to your card front.
I love how this card turned out – the double shaker window is a really cool technique that I hadn’t tried before but will definitely do again. What do you think? All the best,

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
