Blue Monstera Leaf: Card & Bookmark

Simon Says Stamp | Cheering You On Release

Hi there!

I hope you are having a wonderful summer so far!

Today I have a fun technique to share with you!  I used Acrylic paint markers and a stencil to “paint” on acetate for both of these projects.

Both projects feature the new Monstera stencil.  I used the 3 detail layers of the stencil only so that I could have the clear areas of the acetate show.

To make these projects, you’ll follow the same process:

  1. Secure the first stencil over the acetate.  You can use Pixie spray but be aware that you will need to carefully clean the spray residue off of your acetate when your done – this can be a challenge – so I recommend using tape to hold your project and the stencil in place.
  2. Use your Altenew Acrylic markers to paint in each of the openings in the stencil.  Use your lightest color first.  Let this layer dry and then repeat so that your have 2 coats of paint for each layer.  Let the paint dry completely before removing your stencil.  You will see streaks from the marker – especially on the lightest layer – this just gives the project a whimsical look, in my opinion, but it is something to be aware of.  You could also use regular acrylic paint and apply it with a brush or sponge to eliminate the streaks if you prefer.
  3. Repeat step 2 for each layer of the stencil.
  4. If you have any paint overage (where it went outside the stencil) you can easily scrape the paint off with your fingernail to clean it up.
  5. For the card, I used Stazon ink to stamp my sentiment over the monstera leaf image.  You’ll want to use a stamp positioner for this as you will need a couple of coats of Stazon to get a crisp image over your painting.

Acrylic paint will scratch off your acetate so you may want to seal your images with an acrylic sealer.  Be sure to test the sealer on scrap material before you apply it to your finished project.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today!

Have a wonderfully creative day, everyone!

I fell in love with card-making many years ago and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I love trying out new techniques and finding the perfect color combination for whatever I’m creating.

By nature, I am an uber-organizer and a steadfast planner, but as you’ll see, my creations are much more fluid. And while I love color theory, the concept of lights and shadows, and the importance of depth and perspective – these are not things I worry about when it comes to my creations.

I simply find joy in creating and delight in sharing.

I hope that by sharing my cards and other art with you here on my blog I can inspire you to create something you love!
